Since brick pavers are more used in outdoor areas, like patios, sidewalks, pool decks, and driveways, they are more susceptible to color fade after a period of time. When you have pavers for a while, a really common question is “How to restore color to brick pavers?”.

Brick pavers can be used to increase the curb appeal of your house, giving it an elegant look and in addition to the appearance, pavers can also increase the value of your home. But just like any kind of surface, they sometimes need some sort of restoration at some point. Fortunately, when it comes to coloration, you can easily restore the faded color of your brick pavers.

Do you want to restore your pavers, but have no idea how to restore color to brick pavers? Don’t worry, in this article you’re gonna know everything you need to about the subject!

How to restore color to brick pavers?

As mentioned earlier, it is very easy to restore the color to brick pavers. Wet-look sealers are highly recommended because they help restore some of the original colors and prevent future fading, but without changing an existing color.

The process of restoring the color of brick pavers can be done in 4 steps:

  • Step 1: With a pressure washer and long-handled brush, remove dirt and grime from the brick pavers.
  • Step 2: If there is mold or algae in your pavers, use an oxygen-bleach solution to remove them.
  • Step 3: Leave the pavers to dry completely for at least two days.
  • Step 4: After the pavers dry, apply a sealer to the brick pavers using a sponge roller or a heavy-duty metal sprayer. You can use a solvent-based sealer for better results. After applying, let the pavers dry again for, at least, 24 hours.

It’s important to check the weather before sealing your paver. If it rains during the process, that can disrupt the work and you might need to do it all over again.

Can I prevent the color of brick pavers to fade?

The most effective way to protect your investment and prevent the color of your brick pavers to fade is sealing. A wet look sealer will darken your pavers giving them the appearance you see after a rain. Optionally, you can go with an invisible sealer that does not change the appearance but protects the area.

The benefits of sealing

Sealers do way more than simply bring back the natural beauty of pavers, but it also keeps them looking good for a very long time.

Prevent weeds

Regardless of the paver layout, one thing you can’t avoid is the growth of weeds in the space between pavers. This space between them can be inundated by grass or weeds and sealers can prevent grass, weed, and mold growth.

Easier Cleaning

Sealing your pavers makes the process of cleaning so much easier. Where unsealed pavers might require scrubbing with cleaning solvents, sealed pavers only need a hosing to look good again.

Sealed pavers are better able to repel grime, including oil, grease, and other substances that may cause the stone to look dirty and stained.

Protection

Over time, it is very normal that pavers suffer deterioration. Sealing your pavers will ensure the greatest longevity.

Can I seal pavers by myself?

We recommended you not to. Sealing properly will be a tough job that requires some special tools and equipment that you probably don’t have at home and you’re gonna need to rent those tools, which will cost you more money.
