Curved Pavers: Options and Applications

It’s no secret to anyone that pavers are the best flooring options available in hardscape today. Their versatility and resistance are unmatched by any other option the market has to offer. Today we want to talk about curved pavers.

The reason for it is very simple. We often see curved pavers being mistakenly labeled as “not as versatile” as straight pavers. We want to present some arguments to change that point of view and expand your ideas about hardscape design.

So let’s talk about some options when it comes to curved pavers, both in material and design, and hopefully give this wonderful hardscape element its deserved time in the spotlight.

Curved Pavers: Materials

Let’s start by being really fair here. We are not saying that curved pavers are as versatile as straight pavers, especially in the material category. Our point is simply that, within their limitations, they still offer tons of wonderful design options.

Those different design options are often sought after by homeowners who are tired of sticking to the same patterns and designs in their projects. If you’re looking for something really different, maybe designs incorporating curved pavers are the way to go.

Still, curved pavers are more limited in the materials they are made of. The vast majority of them are made out of concrete – which is not exactly bad news since concrete pavers are still considered to be the best ones on the market.

You can still find some curved options amongst natural stones and porcelain, but they are much more expensive and difficult to come across. If you want to use curved pavers, concrete ones are absolutely the way to go.

Design Options

Curved pavers are often sold in packages that contain a specific amount for a pre-designed patio. You simply choose the diameter of the patio you want, and the packages already come with the exact amount of pavers you’re going to need.

Still, for the most creative and daring homeowners, they are also sold separately, so you can freely create your own design.

And speaking of design, the key to creating one is to first draw what you imagine on the ground and take some measures afterwards. You have to work closely with a professional hardscape supplier to choose the exact kind of paver you’ll need for your project.

This is actually something that holds true even for straight pavers – but is even more important for curved pavers. Working with curved pavers demands much more precision and planning.

Curved pavers can even work alongside straight pavers, given that you have taken your time to plan your project. The following image gives you an example of that.

In this image, we can clearly see one of those “paver packages” in action. This circle paver kit in question works to create this intricate design of three spheres.

Pay attention to how they alternate between sizes and shapes to create a seamlessly circular flow.

They can be used as a patio by themselves or, as we can see above, to integrate a more complex design.

Curved Designs With Straight Pavers

We want to call your attention to the next image.

As you can see, it is a beautiful paver walkway with a fairly intricate design.

If you pay very close attention to it, you’ll realize that, even though it looks like it, there’s not a single curved paver in that design.

Of course, to achieve that perfect blend, you’ll have to eventually have to make some cuts in some pavers. But given this is a fairly difficult job to do, you’ll want to avoid that as much as possible – especially with no professional help at hand.

It is possible to create a curved design using straight pavers without having to cut any of them, though. All you need is planning. This article can update you on that subject with more depth.

What we want to point out is that you can still create beautiful round and curved designs using straight pavers.

Of course, curved pavers will always be better for the job. But given that they are so specific in their function, sometimes straight pavers are more “malleable” to fit in designs.

Creating Your Own Design

You can never go wrong with pavers, especially concrete ones, the most versatile out there.

For homeowners who have never worked with pavers, the choice of material and design can be the hardest choice. In fact, things are much more complex than they seem.

Planning a paver installation requires careful consideration of all the variables involved, including setting, environment, weather, material, and design. There are many things to consider before reaching a final decision.

Over 22 years of activity, our team at JS Brick has had many experiences with installations that turned out to be a headache, despite having everything in their favor to be perfect.

That’s why we always recommend hiring a professional hardscape contractor in your area to help you with your project. A DIY approach can be catastrophic when working with pavers.

And if you happen to be in our area of activity, around Sarasota County, in FL, why not give us a call to help you?
