For many homeowners, the choice of the right kind of paver starts at the choice of color. After all, aesthetic value is a big aspect of pavers. So, what color pavers go with a yellow house, for example? Is there anything else that needs to be considered before choosing a paver?
In fact, there is. Aesthetic, although a big part of it, is not all that pavers have to offer. Is that was all they could bring to the table, they wouldn’t be able to compete with other strong and reliable options. Pavers are also incredibly sturdy and versatile.
They can be made of many materials, like concrete, natural stone and even porcelain, which is currently considered one of the best options in the market. So how to make the right choice of paver and still remain aesthetically consistent?
That what we’re going to tackle on this article. We’re going to give you a few tips on how to choose the right color of paver according to your setting, but also explain why color shouldn’t be a priority. So let’s get right to it.
What Color Pavers Go With a Yellow House?
Yellow is a strong color. It is bright and luxurious. Ideally, the pavers you choose for a yellow house must compliment that aspect and bring attention to it.
The safest way in which you can combine the colors of your paver with the colors of your house in two different ways: matching or blending.
To match colors, you’re going to pick colors that belong to the same pallet, but that have hues close to each other. To blend, you’re still going to work inside the same pallet, but you’re going to pick opposite colors.
If you have any difficulty creating a color pallet, a color wheel can help you a ton. Adobe has this great page for it.
Yellow, being a strong color, usually has a lot of success with complimentary colors. The idea is that you balance the brightness of yellow with a more somber and darker tone. The red and brown of bricks or the gray sobriety of concrete are a perfect match for it.
Color is Not Everything
So let’s say you decide to go for brick pavers. You found a perfect shade of brick that will look astonishing when combined with the yellow of your house. However, you have a pool on your backyard.
Brick pavers and pools do not belong together. Trying to use bricks as pavers on a poolside installation is sure to be disastrous. Pavers for pools need to be much denser and able to absorb water, like travertine paver.
So, even though aesthetically speaking they would be perfect, bricks are a no-go for this hypothetical scenario of our. Actually, from our 22 years experience, we can safely that this situation is not so far unattached from reality. It happens more than you think.
We gave an extreme example to illustrate, but the point stands. The most important thing when choosing pavers is functionality. First, focus on choosing a paver that fits your project structurally, then you move on to colors.
Still on that example, you know that travertine would be a better fit for your installation. But travertine always present itself is softer earthly tones, no strong greys, browns or reds. So your best option might be to go for a softer match instead of blend.
With its softer and lighter tones, you can find some colors that will match the overall hue of your house without competing with it.
The thing is, always go for functionality over aesthetic. Always choose colors and textures from your available structurally optimized options.
