What Color Pavers Go With a Blue House?

There are various factors to consider when choosing a paver color, like the material the pavers are made of and the purpose of the area you are paving. The price range you are shooting for can also be of relevance. And don’t forget, the shade of blue you are painting your house is yet another factor to consider. Also, knowing the general aesthetics you’re looking for, meaning to complement, enhance or contrast the blue in your house. Then you can decide the best color for your pavers.

Let’s see what works and what does not work with blue houses.

How to pick a paver color for my blue house?

In a word, gray. You can’t go wrong with a gray pavers, but it’s not that simple because even a brown paver can work with a blue house.

It all depends on what final aesthetics you want to achieve. From dark to light, use, and abuse, the shades your pavers provide.  Grays are always good colors to use with blue, but tans and browns also can work because they remind us of nature, of wood and rocks, and work as neutral colors.  The color of your roof must also be considered for a balanced look.

Using blue on your walls, dark or light, white trims and light gray pavers will soften the look.  Dark gray pavers can enhance the blue on your walls, especially if you also have a dark gray roof and white trims. Use dark and light tones to match or blend as you wish. Nonetheless, grays and blues are cold colors, so they can contribute to a cold whole look.

You can use brown pavers to warm up the general aesthetics of your house. A dark blue house with black trims will look more pleasing to the eye with brown pavers.

Other factors that may limit your paver color options

First, you may want to figure out the purpose of your paved area, so a professional can help you determine the best material for your pavers.

Pavers can be made of many materials, such as concrete, brick, clay, or natural stone. They can be porcelainengineered, or environmentally friendly.  Keep in mind that pavers made of some materials can be ordered in numerous colors, but pavers made of some other materials will be limited to their original array of colors. Concrete pavers can be ordered in many colors, including plain colors, with an array varying from light to dark. Brick pavers’ colors tend to vary from brown to dark red, while travertine pavers vary in the tan and light brown family of colors.

The prices will vary too. Brick pavers can cost twice the price of concrete pavers.

Different pavers have different characteristics and use, and so have different areas in your house.  Let’s say you want pavers for your driveway, pool area, or walkway.  These areas will have different uses and frequencies of use. While your driveway may be used every day and suffer a load of cars and trucks, with possible spillage of oil and other substances, your walkway will see only occasional movement and much less load. Your pool area will suffer from direct sunlight all day long, with residues of salt or chemical from the pool water, while some walkways will remain in the shadow most of the time.

Different areas can be laid in different pavers with matching colors, but not necessarily with the same paver type. If you are looking to remodel your home, you may want to match the transition from the existing area to the newly remodeled area. And if it is a new build, you may want to use other recourses to create more interest while unifying the look.

Other recourses pavers can offer

While some pavers, such as travertine, stone, and brick pavers, come in varied hues of natural colors, other pavers, such as concrete, and permeable pavers come in plain colors.

Take advantage of your plain color pavers, using the different shades to designate areas. Create a rug area of sorts to accommodate the table and chairs in your outside eating area, just by using a different shade of the same paver. Create focal points in your hardscape just by adding a mosaic on the crossing point of two pathways. Enhance the borders on your pathways. Highlight steps so accidents are less prone to happen. Make your art or statement on the floor.

Another resource you have is to lay patterns on the floors with pavers. Not only the traditional checker or herringbone but there are other beautiful and intricate patterns you can use to create interest and make your paved floor unique. Unite patterns with color variation, and you have infinite possibilities.

Should I DIY?

You may be tempted to DIY, but it is always best to look for professional advice. A hardscape professional will advise you about the best material for the purposes your paver will have, which will often help you save money.
